Out of the weather lab…
La Palma is unique and that in many ways. Not only the nature and the topography of our small island captivate by numerous special features. Also with the weather happening the Isla Bonita can be compared only with difficulty with others. Beside the special geological structure of the island and the comparatively large differences in altitude on a relatively small area, the different wind directions and thus also the cloudiness are decisive for the local weather.
Due to this diversity it is possible to start in the morning with clear, sunny weather in Los Llanos de Aridane, to meet rain in Tijarafe and a storm-lashed Atlantic near Barlovento in the northeast of the island. Should be a side trip to the 2.426 meters high Roque de los Muchachos on the round trip still on the program, it would be possible to encounter snow and ice there. Since the weather can be so individual and varied, it makes sense to take a look at different sources of information before planning your trip. Be it to choose the suitable clothes, to find a sunny place on the island or simply to find out if there is a good view on the mountain ranges of the island.
The current weather
The island government, the Cabildo de La Palma, offers a very well done and really informative overview of the various webcams distributed on the island under this website. This service is not only used by holidaymakers staying on the island, but also simply by guests who are happy to have a look at their favourite destination in their local areas. Also operated by the island government is this overview, where the visitor can inform himself about different weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, etc. on the whole island. The data comes from almost 40 weather stations distributed across the island, which are updated approximately every 10 minutes. Thus, a comprehensive overview of the current La Palma weather is created in real time.
